Asheville Eye Associates, PLLC is seeking to add a full-time or part-time orthoptist to join our pediatric and adult strabismus team. For more than half a century, Asheville Eye Associates has provided expert eye care to our patients in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. Our highly skilled physicians include every sub-specialty of ophthalmology. This position includes assisting with our pediatric, strabismus, and neuro-ophthalmology patients.

The orthoptist will provide comprehensive clinical sensorimotor evaluation and visual assessment of ophthalmology patients with ocular motility dysfunction and will plan and implement treatment programs for selected patients based on evaluation results. In addition to assisting in ophthalmology clinics, the orthoptist will see patients separately in a strabismus/amblyopia clinic.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluates each assigned patient in terms of current or potential problems with vision, muscle balance, binocular sensory relationships or related ocular disorder
  • Plans and implements treatment programs for selected patients based on evaluation results
  • Re-evaluates on-going therapy, instituting appropriate changes in the management plan
  • Participates in assigned clinics, completes required documentation of examination and therapy in EMR

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Certified orthoptist or eligible certification from an AOC accredited Orthoptic Program
  • Excellence in clinical care of children and their families
  • Commitment to detailed and accurate examination techniques
  • Team player willing to participate in multiple tasks to facilitate patient care
  • Friendly professional manner
  • Computer literacy
  • High level of customer service cultural sensitivity and effective oral and written communications skills

Experience:

Must have clinical training from an AOC accredited Orthoptic Program and have worked with children in the past. Prior experience in clinical practice as an orthoptist and/or clinical experience in an academic medical center is an advantage but not required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Good hearing and visual acuity are required. Must be able to physically assist patients to and from examination chairs. Must be able to assist visually impaired patients. Must have manual dexterity to work with ophthalmic equipment.
