Success Profile:

Pediatric Ophthalmology at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital offers an excellent opportunity for pediatric orthoptist. Provides clinical care and expertise for diagnosis and treatment of patients with disorders of the visual system with an emphasis on binocular vision and eye movement disorders. The Orthoptist will work closely with the pediatric ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive care for our patients. This position will establish an independent orthoptic clinic to co-manage pediatric and adult patients as well as assist in the general pediatric ophthalmology clinical setting. The Orthoptist will assist in education of rotating medical students and residents as well as enhance the clinical skills of the ophthalmic technicians. Orthoptist may also be involved in clinical research.

Practice Description:

The Pediatric Ophthalmology team currently includes 3 pediatric ophthalmologists, 1 pediatric optometrist, 1 orthoptist, and 9 experienced ophthalmic technicians. The team provides comprehensive pediatric ophthalmic care and treatment for adults with strabismus. The newly expanded pediatric ophthalmology office is conveniently connected to the children’s hospital and the dedicated pediatric operating rooms.  With a catchment area of over one million people, the providers see a high volume of outpatients with a variety of routine and complex ophthalmic issues.  Our pediatric ophthalmologists also provide consultative services for patients hospitalized at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital as well as inpatient and outpatient retinopathy of prematurity care. The practice has an on-site optical shop with 2 experienced opticians for patient and family convenience.
