As our Orthopist we here at Sansum Clinic are looking for you to bring your expertise to our growing “We Care” team. Under the general supervision of an ophthalmologist, this position evaluates and manages eye movement abnormalities. If you enjoy bringing your specialty and knowledge in vision disorders, eye movements, eye alignment and treatment of eye conditions and diseases, we are looking for you.

Greets patients and obtains patient history.  Evaluates vision and ocular alignment using specialized examination techniques.  Manages prisms including Fresnel.  Performs orthoptic/eye muscle training for patients with continuing medical direction and evaluation.  Determines visual acuity level, focus ability, binocular function and eye movements.  Suggests appropriate management regimens.  Maintains examination rooms, equipment, and supplies.  Completes documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
Works as a team player supporting a variety of staff.  Displays a caring and responsive attitude and conducts all activities respecting patient, family and employee rights and expectations.  Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques.  Adheres to established safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.  Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and practice. Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual practice.  Maintains certification and license requirements. and submits required evidence of certification/licensure as needed.  Completes annual performance and competency evaluation process with management and participates in goal setting, performance improvement and educational training as needed Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs/activities.  Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.  Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.  Adheres to HIPAA regulations.  Exercises discretion and maintains high level of confidentiality.


Knowledge of clinical practices, medical terminology, and medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of department and clinical rules, policies, and procedures.  Common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.  Ability to adapt to varied, age-specific and/or specialized groups.  Interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.  Read, write and communicate effectively in English.  Organize and prioritize work.  Follow oral and written instructions.  Reason and make sound judgments.  Establish and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, management patients, medical staff, and the public.  Accepts constructive criticism and giving suggestions in a professional manner.
